Philadelphia’s Walnut Street Theatre is looking for a Philadelphia-area musician or trad player to perform authentic Irish and Newfoundland folk orchestration in their production of Broadway hit “Come From Away.”
Performers should be comfortable and ready to play numerous
high & low whistles, uilleann pipes, boxwood, and Irish flutes. There are
no classical flute or piccolos needed in the score. They should be proficient in
Pennywhistles in High F, E, D, C, Bb, A, G, F#, F, Low E, Low Eb, Low D, Low C,
Low C#, and Low A. They should also be able to play Irish flutes in D and Bb,
and the boxwood flute. It would be beneficial for the musician to play uilleann
pipes, but it is not as featured or important for this chair.
Aside from the musicianship, the player should be comfortable
performing on stage, reading music, performing in costume, and following a
conductor in a musical.
The performer will receive a weekly salary based on the AFM
Local-77 scale. They may have a substitute for up to 11 performances after
their first performance, and they are responsible for identifying and preparing
their substitute.
Rehearsal times are to be determined, but will take place on
weekdays during the week of April 5th, 2027. The dress rehearsal will be on Sunday, April 11th. Performances take place
from April 13 to May 30, 2027, with 8 performances per week. The full
performance dates can be found here: https://www.walnutstreettheatre.org/season/show/come-from-away-the-musical.

you own or have access to the instrument list.
The musical tells the story of an airplane that was redirected
to Canada following the September 11 attacks in New York City and other areas. It
is based on a true story of a community that opened its arms to complete strangers
to help them in a difficult time.
The production’s credits are as follows:

-Director: Fran Prisco
-Music Director: Chris Burcheri
-Music by: Irene Sankoff and David Hein
