Celtic Crafts: Jack-O'-Lantern Trick-Or-Treat Bag

Halloween is a fun time for all ages, and reusable bags have a variety of purposes this season. There are pumpkins everywhere, and jack-o’-lanterns have their roots in Celtic culture. Trick-or-treating also has Celtic roots, so a jack-o’-lantern is a great way to celebrate Halloween in Celtic style.

1. Gather Supplies

1 bag

Black embroidery floss and needle

Sewing kit

Felt pumpkin

2. Pin the pumpkin on the bag

Figure out where you want the pumpkin to be on the bag. Using sewing pins, pin the pumpkin onto the bag to hold it steady when you sew it on. This prevents it from moving from where you want it to be.

3. Sew the pumpkin onto the bag

Using a sewing needle and thread, sew the pumpkin onto the bag. As you go along, remove the pins that are holding the pumpkin in place.

4. Embroider

Using black embroidery thread and an embroidery needle, embroider the eyes, nose, and mouth of the pumpkin. This helps these parts stand out and look more like a jack-o'-lantern.

What I would do differently

I think this would look cool on a black bag. I chose yellow because that’s what was available to me, but a black bag would look awesome. However, I do like how it turned out.
