Album Review: "Saddest Truth" by Sign Crushes Motorist and KayCyy

Sign Crushes Motorist, a music project by Liam McCay, teamed up with Kenyan-American rapper KayCyy to release their album, “Saddest Truth.” The album came out on April 11, 2025, and features a variety of other artists across the 13 tracks.

McCay is known for releasing music under various aliases, from Birth Day and Take Care to Sign Crushes Motorists and more. His music has earned millions of streams each week under these aliases. According to the BBC, McCay has 14 aliases and is known for his slowcore tracks.

The album is perfect for hip-hop and rap fans. One fan of the album went so far as to say that the album scratches the Kanye itch more than Kanye can. Each of the songs on the album has a varying length and vibe, but each song holds true to the voice of the artists.

Personally, as someone who is not a huge fan of rap and hip-hop, I can appreciate the variety of sounds and vibes on the album. There are different things happening on each album, from background sounds to varying effects.

The songs on the album are well mixed. Unlike a lot of rap and hip-hop, the vocals are clear and easy to understand. This is great as listeners can actually hear the lyrics and appreciate the story and messages behind each track. This is especially important on this album because the songs contain a lot of little phrases of wisdom.

One line that stood out to me was, “Be careful what you wish for/you might find lessons.” This is a beautiful interpretation of the famous quote, and it is absolutely true. This album is full of little nuggets sprinkled throughout the tracks. Listeners who pay attention will be able to catch these pearls of wisdom and knowledge.

Overall, this is a good album. I am typically not a fan of hip-hop or rap, but I appreciate the variety of music on this album and was able to find songs I connected with. Most of the songs are marked as explicit, so listeners should be mindful of who else is around in case they do not want little ears to hear.
