"Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation" by Edwyn Collins
On March 14, 2025, Scottish musician, producer, and record label owner Edwyn Collins released his tenth solo album, “Nation Shall Speak Unto Nation.” The album was recorded at Collins’ Clashnarrow Studio in Helmsdale, North East Scotland and was co-produced by Collins alongside Sean Read and Jake Hutton. Aside from co-producing the album, Read and Hutton also play on the album. The album also features James Walbourne, William Collins, and Carwyn Ellis.
Each of the songs on the album tells a unique story and has its
own journey and vibe. However, the songs all have Collins’ unique style and
voice, so it is clear that he is the one behind the songs. It is obvious that
he is so passionate about and in touch with each of these songs. It almost feels
like we are getting a behind-the-scenes look at his life.
The mixing and the instrumentation on each track are very
unique. No two songs have the same instrumentation. Collins has been in the
music industry for several decades, and it is cool to witness him mastering a
variety of feels and instruments on the album. He is willing to do different
things instead of sticking with the same thing for each song, which is rare to
see.
The album has 11 songs on it, but it went by quickly. Other
albums of the same length have felt so much longer than this album. This is
because each song is its own journey, so listeners are able to stay interested
and engaged throughout the entirety of the album. All of the songs are unique,
but they all come together in a nice package and tell a cohesive story.
Overall, this album is perfect for anyone looking for a relaxing
yet interesting album. Each song is a chapter of the album’s story, all letting
us into a part of Collins’ life. The album has an overall feeling of embracing
life for all that it is, through the good times and the bad, and not taking
things too seriously all the time. The album imparts Collins’ life wisdom on
each song, allowing listeners to learn about life.
