Jack-o-lanterns have roots in Celtic culture. They were traditionally carved from turnips and stem back to the legend of Stingy Jack, who, after deceiving people and the Devil himself, was fated to return to the earth as a turnip with a face carved in it. This craft pays homage to that legend. The canvas can be placed on a desk or shelf, or it can be hung on a wall.
1. Gather supplies
For this project, I used markers and stickers. You may also
use paint, crayons, or colored pencils. The canvas I used is 4 inches x 4
inches.
2. Place the stickers
Decide what face stickers you want to use and how you want
to stick them on. There are endless possibilities, so decide which one works
for you.
3. Color the canvas
Use whatever colors you want to color the canvas. For this
project, I chose to do orange, which is the color of a traditional pumpkin.
However, I would also want to do a canvas that is pink because that would look
cute.
4. Enjoy your masterpiece!
As mentioned, there are a lot of things you can do with your
creation. Show it off this Halloween season and remember the Irish legend each
time you look at your masterpiece.
Learn from me:
When I did this project, I placed the stickers on the canvas
before coloring the canvas with orange markers. If I were to do this project
again (even with different colors), I would color the canvas first before
placing any stickers.
