Fans and Loved Ones Honor Glen Hansard in A Variety of Ways

In the wake of the death of Irish singer Glen Hansard, there have been a variety of ways that people have come together to honor him.

On Monday, August 3, 2026, there will be a public wake at Baroque Chapel at IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham, Dublin 8 from 11 am to 4 pm. Hansard’s body will lie in repose for those wishing to pay their final

Hansard’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at 1:30 pm. It will take place at Saint Patrick's Cathedral, Saint Patrick's Close, Dublin 8. There will be a public address system outside of the cathedral. The funeral will also be livestreamed online and on RTÉ News.

Hansard was known to be generous, helping the homeless in Ireland. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that fans donate to Dublin’s Simon Community or Ukrainian Action. Information about these causes, including donations, can be found below:

There have been other tributes that fans and loved ones have organized. On July 30 and 31, 2026, Mansion House in Dublin had a Book of Condolence for Hansard that visitors could sign. There is an online version where people unable to visit Dublin can send messages through August 12, 2026. Mansion House will print out these messages and include them with the physical book that will be given to Hansard’s family.

On Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 6 pm, musicians and singers of all levels are invited to take part in a tribute music session at the Regent, Islington, London N1 1LX. People are invited to share songs and stories to pay tribute to Hansard. All are invited, whether you are playing music or just listening in. The event is free, but there will be a collection of donations for the Simon Community.

On August 6, 2026, Rascals Brewing Company is hosting a charity screening of “Once,” a film that Hansard starred in. He won an Oscar for best song for “Falling Slowly,” which appears in the film. Following “Once,” there will be a showing of a concert film showcasing Hansard that was created by filmmaker Myles O’Reilly. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the screening begins at 7:30 pm. Admission is €5 plus the Eventbrite booking fee. All money raised from ticket sales will go to Dublin’s Simon Community.
