On July 24, 2026, Dutch DJ Martin Garrix and Irish band U2 released “Fireflies,” a collaboration that premiered live during Garrix's headline set at Belgium's Tomorrowland the previous weekend. This performance featured a surprise appearance from U2’s Edge.
The track features Bono’s signature vocals, U2’s classic
sound, and Garrix’s production. This is the first time all four members of U2
have appeared on a track by Garrix, though U2 and Garrix have collaborated
several times in the past.
''Fireflies' has a very unique mood,” said Garrix in a news release. “It's a special song we started working on six summers ago. It felt
electrifying and very surreal to finally debut it at Tomorrowland with The
Edge.”
"We go back a long way with Martin,” said Edge. “There's
always a sense of adventure whenever we get together. Playing Fireflies for the
first time at Tomorrowland, in front of one of the most passionate festival
crowds anywhere, was such a rush; in fact, I might have enjoyed it a bit too
much. It reminded me of why I love playing outdoors. I like it better when
there's no ceiling."
Garrix produced "Scars," a track that was featured
on the band's Easter Lily EP. He also collaborated with Bono and Edge in 2019 on
"We Are The People," for the UEFA Football Championship.
U2 and Garrix have a busy year ahead. This collaboration is
the latest in a series of collaborations for Garrix. U2 has a new album coming
out later this year, which will be their first new album in nine years. Their
single, “City of Dreams,” is the first single off this album.
