A tribute album celebrating the songs of Shane MacGowan has been announced. “20th Century Paddy: The Songs of Shane MacGowan” is set to be released on November 13, 2026. The album was announced on March 12, 2026. Bruce Springsteen’s cover of “A Rainy Day in Soho” was released the same day.
MacGowan was an Irish singer who was best known for being
the lead singer of The Pogues, a Celtic Punk band. His songs often tell the
stories and experiences of Irish immigrants and are filled with references to
mythology, the Bible, and literature. He died in November of 2023 at the age of
65 after battling ill health. He is known for his songs such as “Fairytale of
New York.”
Shane’s wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, oversaw the making of the tribute album. 50% of the proceeds from the album will benefit The Dublin Simon Community, which helps the unhoused community in Dublin.helps the unhoused community in Dublin.
