Album Review: "Michelangelo Dying" by Cate Le Bon

"Michelangelo Dying" by Cate Le Bon

On September 26, 2025, Welsh singer Cate Le Bon released her latest album, “Michelangelo Dying,” via Mexican Summer LLC. It was produced by Cate Le Bon and Samur Khouja and was engineered and mixed by Samur Khouja. Heba Kadry mastered the album. The album is Le Bon’s seventh album.

The mixing of the album is a bit messy and muddy at a few points. There are moments throughout the album where the lyrics are hard to understand because the background music is too loud and the messiness of the instruments detracts from the vocals.

Le Bon’s overall vibe sounds like a modern version of Enya with a bit more going on in the background of the songs. Her music is relaxing, perfect for putting on in the background and getting stuff done. The album has 10 songs, so it is a great length for working on a task.

This album is all about raw emotion that is felt during and after heartbreak. Her songs perfectly capture what it feels like to deal with a dying romance. While the album sounds like it was healing to make, it may have opened up raw emotions. This vulnerability adds so much to the album, allowing listeners to relate to and connect with Le Bon.

The album starts out with “Jerome.” It is a bit of a slow start with muddy mixing in the background. The background instruments take away from what she is singing and make it hard to understand. This is very much the vibe of the rest of the album.

Those who are looking for variety in the songs on the album will not find it on this album. It has a similar ethereal and otherworldly vibe to it that stays consistent throughout. While it is good that Le Bon found her voice and wants to stick with it, it would be nice to hear a bit of variety on the album.

Overall, the album is perfect for those who are Enya fans. Those who love this style of music will be happy to know that the album basically sounds the same, with very little variety in the songs. None of the songs are labeled as “explicit,” making it a safe album for the entire family.
