Celtic Snack Review: Walker's Shortbread Thistle Rounds

Walker’s shortbread thistle rounds are available in grocery stores. I found them at my local Shoprite (not sponsored by either brand), but I know they are available at other stores as well as online. These cookies are easily one of my favorite snacks.

Joseph Walker opened Walker’s first bakery in 1898 in the Scottish Highlands. Their ingredients remain as simple as they were from the beginning: flour, sugar, salt, and butter. These shortbread rounds are vegetarian-friendly.

The thistles that decorate these shortbread rounds are a nice Scottish touch. There is also tartan on the packaging of the cookies, which is a version of the Walker tartan. Both of these touches bring the consumer of the snacks closer to Scottish culture.

The box is recyclable, and the plastic tray can be recycled locally. There are some Walker’s shortbread cookies that are available in smaller packages. This is great for those who want to try the snack, but those who know they like shortbread will find the larger packaging more environmentally friendly. Only the plastic wrap needs to be thrown away.

The cookies themselves are absolutely delicious. Other cookie companies have shortbread cookies, but Walker’s is superior. Some of the other companies are more buttery. Walker’s has perfected the recipe and ratio of their ingredients through the years. They have a perfect balance of butter and other ingredients so that one ingredient is not more powerful than the others.

The thickness of the cookie is also perfect. They are not so thick that they are impossible to bite into without breaking a tooth, but are not so thin that they fall apart when you hold them. The cookies are a perfect balance between moist and dry. It is difficult to only have a couple of cookies as they are so good.

Overall, these cookies are a great snack for any day or for any occasion. The recipe has been around since 1898, and the taste and brand bring consumers closer to Scotland. The recipe is perfectly balanced and has been proven by time and legacy. Consumers know that this shortbread brand is tried and true and is one of the most authentic Scottish shortbread cookies on the market today.
