On February 27, 2026, Tennessee-based band Boxing Robin released their second album, “Land of the Noon-Day Moon.” The album features music from the Irish, Scottish, French, English, and Breton traditions. The songs that have words and vocals are sung in English and French.

The mixing on the album is decent overall. However, on “Ridee six Temps/Quand les Garçons Vont Aux Noces,” the accordion is a bit loud compared to the vocals and the other instruments. The song is sung in French, and while those who do not speak French will not understand the lyrics, it is still a beautiful song, and listeners can still appreciate it.

Fans of Celtic music will recognize the tune of “Across the Western Ocean” as being the same tune as “Leave Her Johnny.” The lyrics of this album’s song are different but still tell of someone who has been on a journey far away from home. The two versions have a similar vibe, but they tell very different stories from different perspectives.

Those who love the High Kings will recognize the tune of “Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine” portion of the third song of the album. The tune is used in the High Kings’ “Irish Pub Song.” On a personal level, I did not know that the song was originally a tune, so I was surprised to hear the song and recognize another tune that the High Kings did.

There is an instrument on the song, “Derriere Chez Nous/Chypre/Congo de Captieux ,” that sounds like a buzzing noise that is played with the rhythm of the song. In the first tune of the set, it is a bit overpowering and distracting. By the final tune, it was not as loud but it was still present. It added a different texture to the band’s sound.

Overall, this album is a great way for fans of Celtic music to hear new songs and tunes. Even if they have heard particular tunes before, they will hear a different version on this album and gain a new appreciation for the versatility of Celtic music. The variety of Celtic cultures represented on this album is essential, as the music of Celtic countries other than Ireland and Scotland tends to be overlooked.
