Album Review: "The Sligo Bandits" by The Sligo Bandits

"The Sligo Bandits" by The Sligo Bandits

On January 29, 2026, Irish band Sligo Bandits released their first EP, “Sligo Bandits” via Deedub Records. The album consists of five songs that talk about politics in the United States. Since its release, the songs of the album have been a hit on social media.

The songs on the album are political, specifically referring to the political scene in the United States. Listeners may be tempted to think that the Irish should remain quiet about American politics. However, American politics impacts the whole world.

The Irish have been through a lot of similar things throughout their history, so they are uniquely qualified to have opinions on what they are seeing. There have been people who have said that those who claim that “Those with Irish heritage and ancestry should not be Trump supporters.”

People from the United States and around the world will appreciate the sentiments in the album. Many are afraid of speaking out, but this album is brave and bold in expressing their thoughts and feelings.

“Gen Z Gobshite” is a comical song about the most recent generation’s slang terms. The lyrics may not make sense to Gen Z, or anyone for that matter, but there are points in the song where the slang terms do make sense together. This song is not a political song, but it still touches on current events and recent slang terms.

“2025” will connect with a lot of people around the world, no matter what your political affiliation is or what you believe. Collectively, 2025 was a rough year for a lot of people. By the end of the year, people were ready for it to be over. This song captures that sentiment perfectly.

The album does a great job of keeping to the sound of traditional Irish music while speaking on current events. This is a neat juxtaposition that listeners will appreciate. It showcases Irish history making a statement on current events, which is powerful.

Overall, this album is a perfect encapsulation of what the world is like right now. Those who support the current administration in the United States may find this album offensive, but those who are struggling to see hope in everything going on will appreciate the solidarity from a band across the pond.
