Irish musician CMAT released her third studio album, “EURO-COUNTRY,” on August 29, 2025. “CMAT” stands for her full name- Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson. The song combines country and pop music sounds with Irish storytelling to bring listeners into CMAT’s world and mind.
The original album consists of 12 tracks. There is an
extended version available on CMAT’s website that contains additional songs. While
Thompson had some co-writers on a few of the songs, the songs were primarily
written by her. This shines through with how connected she is to each song and
how much passion she sings with.
The cover art of the album features CMAT coming out of a
fountain. It was taken in the middle of a Dunboyne shopping center near where
CMAT is from. The picture was inspired by “Truth Coming Out of Her Well,” an
1896 painting by Jean-Leon Gerome. This is a great choice of inspiration for
the cover art, as this album sounds like it could be CMAT’s diary, given how open
and honest she is with each song.
"Running/Planning" is the lead single from the
album. While most of the songs on the album are more upbeat and fun, this one
slows down a bit and takes a breath. This song emphasizes CMAT’s talent for
creating unique songs while staying true to her own voice that she has
developed.
“Take A Sexy Picture Of Me” is the album’s second single and
is a relatable song for many women out there. It talks about society’s pressure
for women to look perfect, even from the early age of nine. Listeners will
recognize the second verse of this song from a popular social media trend from
over the summer.
The mixing and mastering on this album allow listeners to hear
CMAT’s voice clearly. The background instrumentals and vocals are in perfect
balance to CMAT’s main vocals. Her voice is clear and easy to understand, which
allows listeners to hear what she is saying across the album.
Overall, this album is a beautiful reflection of who CMAT
is. She is so connected to each of the songs, highlighting that she was
involved with the writing of each song. Each song tells a unique story that listeners
will be able to relate to. A few of the songs are labeled as explicit, but this
does not take away from the power of the album.
