Album Review: "Glasgow Love Story" by Tide Lines

On April 25, Scottish band Tide Lines released their fourth album, “Glasgow Love Story.” It was recorded on the Isle of Mull and features 12 songs. The band consists of Robert Robertson on vocals and guitar, Ross Wilson on keyboards, Fergus Munro on drums, and Alasdair Turner on guitar and bagpipes. The band released the album on their own independent label.

The songs on the album all tie back into Glasgow in some capacity, although the members are from different parts of Scotland. The band met in Glasgow and several of their favorite gigs have been in Glasgow. Their love of the city resonates through each of the lyrics of the album and the importance of the city is so evident through each note.

While each song has a unique story and perspective, they all echo the sentiment of loving Glasgow and Scotland. The songs all have different feels to them without losing the voice that is the voice of Tide Lines.

Although the album captures their love of the city of Glasgow, the album was also influenced by the folk element of the more rural parts of Scotland. It was recorded in Mull, which also influenced the folk sound of the album.

The album is a beautiful tribute to Scotland and its music. While these songs were written by the band, there are elements of traditional Scottish music sprinkled throughout. The album has a pop and rock feel with a Celtic flair that truly captures the band’s love of Glasgow and Scotland as a whole.

The mixing on the album is very well done. The instruments never overpower the vocals, and the vocals are easy to hear and understand. Since Tide Lines is a Scottish band, their accents do shine through, which adds to the album immensely.

Overall, this album is truly something special. The songs capture their love of the city of Glasgow while also embracing Scotland as a whole. Seeing the balance of an album about a city while maintaining traditional Scottish folk sounds is something that is so unique and special. This album is a perfect listen for anyone who loves Glasgow and for those who love Scotland as a whole.
