Irish musician Biig Piig, the stage name for Jess Smyth,
released her album, “11:11,” on February 7, 2025 via Sony Music. This is her
debut full-length studio album, though she has released singles and EPs. The
album features Jess Smyth on vocals and Zachary Nahome on bass, guitar,
keyboards, programmer, and synthesizer.
Jess Smyth was born in Ireland but grew up in Spain before moving
to London with her family. She released her first track, “Vice City,” as a
teenager and has since released EPs and singles. She has experimented with various
genres.
The 11 songs of the album all flow nicely and tell a story. Even
the titles can be interpreted into a story about a day. Each song is about a
different subject that listeners will be able to relate to. These stories are
part of what makes Biig Piig the artist she is- her songs speak through her
lyrics and can reach listeners across differences. The album is just over 29
minutes long.
The mixing on the album is fairly well done. It is easy to
hear the lyrics under the background tracks. There are a variety of background
instruments and sound effects that are used, keeping the album interesting.
Personally, the song I connected with most is “Brighter Day.”
It talks about a loved one dying and the process of grief that follows for
those left behind. I love the lyric, “You’ve moved on, but this isn’t goodbye.”
It offers hope that we will see loved ones again. This quote also reminds me of
something a loved one said. It is also cool that this is the final song of the
album.
Overall, this album is pretty cool. While the songs
themselves do not stand out to me for the most part (with the exception of “Brighter
Day), I do love that the songs are in a cohesive order that translates to a
story, even with just the titles. Fans of Sabrina Carpenter would like this
album. None of the songs are labeled as “explicit.”
