The Crumplehorn Inn and Mill is located in the fishing village of Polperro, Cornwall. It dates back to the 13th century and still operates as a pub and hotel today. Its rich and deep history has given the inn a chance to become haunted over the years.

Witnesses at the bar have reported sightings of something in the corner of their eye that disappeared when they turned to look at it.  One haunting occurred after a barmaid turned off the lights after finishing her shift. As she walked past the bathroom, the door creaked wide open and then closed again. When she went to investigate, she saw that the bathroom was empty.

Andrew Taylor, the owner, has encountered several wraiths on the property. His accommodation is in the 16th-century mill house. One morning, he woke up to a figure standing at the mirror, holding a cigarette and clasping its forehead. He thought it was his wife, but she was still in bed next to him. He looked back towards the mirror and saw that the figure had disappeared.

Taylor has also reported hearing sounds from the attic above him. This includes the voices of a man and a woman while lying in bed and a door latching, even though there is no door in the attic. The couple has also been seen as phantoms.

Taylor’s wife was very psychic and was able to gather impressions about the people and sounds. She claimed that the male voice was that of a World War I soldier who deserted and was hiding in the attic. The female voice was the soldier’s love. The soldier was sent back to the war front lines, where he died, but he and his lady love return to the Crumplehorn on occasion.
