“You’ll never plough a field by turning it over in your mind” is an Irish proverb. Literally, the proverb means that the plough will not be ploughed just by thinking of it. Sure, it is good to have a strategy for how to approach things, but it is important to actually go out and do the task.
Things do not get done just by thinking about them. People
tend to ruminate about everything they have to do. They plan and write task lists,
but they spend so much time doing this that they run out of time in the day to
do all they wanted to get done. Having a game plan is good, so writing out a
plan or schedule the night before for the next day can help people stay
organized.
Too many times, people have these big dreams, goals, or “bucket
list” items. They fantasize about what it would be like to actually do the
thing, but they never get a chance to do the thing. It is good to figure out
how something can be done, especially if a lot of money and time are needed,
but it is important to live our dreams before we lose the opportunity to.
Ploughing the field is a big task, and people often become
overwhelmed by big projects. They get bogged down trying to create the perfect
plan of attack for the project. However, this sometimes becomes a waste of
time. In many cases, it is better if you just get started on the project
instead of creating some elaborate action plan.
