This book is a great motivator for children who are looking to
find their place in the world. It can also be a motivating book for adults who
are struggling to find their perfect job to do to make a living for themselves
and their family.
People of all ages will be able to relate to feeling like they are failing at everything and that they will never find something they are good at. However, we can take a page from Liam’s book and keep going, knowing that something will show up that we are good at.
Having someone in our lives like the grumpy leprechaun is
also something people will be able to relate to. He is someone who has to be
negative about everything, no matter what. Seeing how Liam and the others dealt
with him throughout the story can teach us all how to deal with similar people
in our lives.
The little details about Irish culture and mythology are
incredible. The oak tree is specifically mentioned, and oak trees are essential
in Irish mythology. There are pots of gold at the end of rainbows, which is also
a staple in Irish mythology. Liam is a very Irish name (i.e., Liam Clancy of
the Clancy Brothers).
The illustrations in the book are gorgeous. They are not
super bright, but the colors and vibe are perfect for the story. The images
really zap readers into the story, making them feel like they are watching
things unfold.
As with many children’s books about leprechauns, there are
female leprechauns. However, in true Irish mythology, there are no female
leprechauns. Liam’s dad was a shoemaker, which does align with Irish mythology,
where leprechauns are shoemakers.
Overall, this book is great. People of all ages can relate to the message of finding something they are good at and finding a job that works for them. The mythological aspects, for the most part, are on track for Irish mythology.
