On July 11, 2025, Swell Season released their latest album, “Forward.” The rock duo consists of Irish musician Glen Hansard and Czech singer and pianist Markéta Irglová. The album consists of eight songs and is available across streaming platforms. It was produced by Sturla Mio Thorisson.

When the band was in the studio, their goal was to lock in some songs for their tour. However, this session led to the creation of a whole new album. It is the band’s first full-length studio album in 16 years. It also follows their massive success with the movie, “Once,” that the duo starred in.

The tracks on the album were written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, who take turns singing the lead on the songs. The feel of the songs on the album reminds me a bit of a few of the songs of “The Greatest Showman.”

Each song has a different vibe to it, but they always stay true to the overall voice of the duo. They have truly honed their craft over the years, and their passion shines through each and every note they sing.

All of the songs on the album tell a unique story. Listeners will be able to visualize exactly what is going on in each song. The messages behind each song are also very inspiring. The album starts off with the single, “Factory Street Bells,” and the song sounds like its talking to a younger generation.  The intro to “I Leave Everything To You” immediately reminded me of Celine Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me,” and it is emotionally powerful.

“Hundred Words” is a great way to wrap up the album. It is a parting song, instilling motivation and kind words upon listeners of the album. Its beautiful and powerful message will inspire and uplift listeners, especially in light of things going on in the world right now.

Overall, this album is beautiful and inspiring, especially in a world that is so dark. It is inspiring, powerful, and emotional. Listeners can use the album as a peaceful escape from a world that feels like too much at times. None of the songs on the album are labeled as explicit.

1. Factory Street Bells

2. People We Used To Be

3. Stuck In Reverse
