Album Review: "Remembering Now" by Van Morrison

On June 13, 2025, Van Morrison released his latest album, “Remembering Now.” The album consists of 14 original songs and was released via Exile Productions. After releasing albums of covers and reworking old material, this album is Morrison’s return to writing new original music.

One thing listeners will realize is just how his style and voice have changed over the years. This album is a bit more mellow than some of his other music. His voice has changed a bit with time as well. This album’s lyrics speak to the themes Morrison is known for, but he blends several different styles such as jazz, soul, folk, country, and blues. He performs each of these seamlessly, as if he has been a master of each of these genres forever. This speaks to his versatility and skill as a musician.

It is cool to see musicians from the 1960s and 1970s still going strong. Morrison is turning 80 at the end of August, and it is impressive to see how he is still making music and doing something he has loved for so long. His career started when he was a teenager, so the fact that he is still going and sounds as great as he does is a true showcase of his passion and resilience.

The songs on this album cover a bunch of topics and themes. This, combined with the different styles presented on the album, helps to keep the album interesting. The songs speak on Morrison’s life experiences and the wisdom he has gained throughout his life. It is about focusing on the here and now and appreciating the things we have.

Overall, this album is a great listen for any Van Morrison fan, whether you listened to him when he was just starting out or you just discovered his music through this album. Seeing how he has evolved over the years and how his sound and style have matured with him is an amazing journey to witness. This journey spanning several decades is a testament to Morrison’s passion and skill for music as well as his resilient spirit. Although there was a bit of a hiatus in Morrison’s original music, this album was worth the wait.
