The Murder Capital, a punk band from Ireland, released their album, “Blindness,” on February 21, 2025. This album is the band’s third studio album and it contains 11 songs and was released by Human Seasons Records.
The album features James McGovern on vocals and additional percussion,
Damien Tuit on guitars, piano, tape delay, and mellotron, Cathal Roper on guitars
and sampler, Gabriel Paschal Blake on bass guitar, and Diarmuid Brennan on drums
and percussion. It was produced by John Congleton, mixed by John
Congleton, engineered by Sean Cook, and mastered by Greg Calbi and
Steve Fallone at Sterling Sound.
There are spots on the album where the instruments are
louder than the vocals, but the vocals are still able to be heard and
understood. The varying instruments and sounds of the songs show the band’s
versatility and talent in doing new things within the album.
Each of the songs has a different story and sound. Every
song has a different style, some being harder punk and others a bit softer and
mellow. Several of the songs tell their own story yet come together to build a
larger narrative.
My favorite song on the album is “Love Of Country.” It can apply
to a variety of countries and scenarios around the world, especially in today’s
world. It is a little bit on the slower and softer side compared to other songs
on the album, but I like the story it tells and how it applies to things going
on now as well as in history.
Overall, the album is not bad, but it is not memorable for
me. The only song on the album that is marked as explicit is “Moonshot.” The
songs do tell a story and build a narrative over the course of the album. While
I did not dislike the album, it was not my favorite album ever. With the songs
all being different, people will find something they do like. For me, I loved “Love
Of Country.”
