From now until the end of 2026, Irish America 250 is collecting stories of those with Irish connections for their America Éire site. The project was launched on July 1, 2026, and submissions are due by December 31, 2026.
The America Éire website is designed to be a living archive
of the stories of those with Irish roots, whether they come from Irish
Americans, Irish-born immigrants, or those with Irish ancestry within the
United States. It is also open to those who do not have ancestry from Ireland
but may have studied or worked in Ireland or have a deep appreciation for the
culture.
This project was started as a way to celebrate America’s 250th
birthday. Storytelling and the written word are essential to Irish culture, so
this is a way to carry on that tradition as well as document the stories of
those who are Irish and love the culture.
People are encouraged to submit their story through the America
Éire website. It should be noted that once the story is published, it is out
there, but the admins on the website can make edits if something pertinent
needs to be changed within the story. People can submit more than one story, but
they should distinguish which ancestor they are writing each story about.
The organizers of the project hope that participants will
learn about and understand how essential the Irish and Irish Americans were in
shaping the United States, from inception to today.
So far, the participation has been incredible. There are at
least 40 stories on the website so far, and more are being posted by the hour.
People are eager to participate and submit their stories to the project.
People can participate by sharing their story (or stories)
through the project’s website. Once they
submit their story, a link will be generated so they can share the story with
loved ones. Participants are also encouraged to share the project with others
who may be interested in sharing their stories on the website.
