"We Were Just Here" by Just Mustard

On October 2, 2025, Irish rock band Just Mustard released their latest album, “We Were Just Here.” Katie Ball is the vocalist featured on the album. The album was produced by the band and mixed by David Wrench.

Just Mustard is a 5-piece band from Dundalk, Ireland. “We Were Just Here” is the band’s third studio album and was released via Partisan Records. The elements of the band that listeners have come to expect are present on the album, but their sound on this album is warmer than their previous music.

For the most part, the vocals are easy to understand. However, the singing style on “Dreamer” made the lyrics a bit difficult to hear and fully understand, even if listeners pay close attention. However, this does feed into the overall feel of the song.

There are moments when the background instruments overpower the vocals. The vocal tracks across the album need to be a bit louder so that the vocals can be heard. Ball’s voice is a bit quiet across the board, and there are moments when she is easy to understand.

On some of the tracks, the background instruments sound a bit muddy. Some people may like that, and it could be a part of the overall sound of the band, but it was not consistent throughout the album.

Although the album only had 10 songs on it, it felt like it was going on forever. Listeners may have a hard time engaging with the songs on the album, especially since the songs have a bit of a dream-like sound to them.

While some of the songs start a bit different, most of the songs sound the same. This could be why the album felt so long. It is difficult to distinguish the lyrics, even if the songs are a bit different.

Overall, this album is great for those who are already fans of the band, but new listeners may be turned away by the inability to hear and understand the lyrics. The instruments are a bit muddy in spots, which makes the situation even more complicated. None of the songs are labeled as explicit.
