Boleskine House, which is located on Loch Ness, was built in the 1760s. It was Colonel Archibald Fraser’s hunting lodge and stayed in the family until the 1890s. There were fires in 2015 and 2019 that threatened to destroy the house, but work is being done to restore it.

Throughout its past, the house and property have been through a lot, including events that would open up the premises for hauntings to occur. The property once housed a kirk (church) that caught on fire, killing the congregation caught inside. In the 1600s, a wizard in the graveyard on the property tried to raise the dead from their graves. It is rumored that a tunnel between the house and the graveyard is patrolled by witches.

Things became even more sinister in 1899 when Aleister Crowley bought the house. He deemed the property the perfect spot to perform the sacred magic of Abramelin the Mage. He is said to have summoned the 12 Kings and Dukes of Hell. As a result of the magic, it is said that a lodgekeeper, who had been sober from alcohol for 20 years, was drunk for three days and attempted to kill his family. As a part of one of Crowley’s rituals, he went on to lose two of his children.

Besides the things that happened when Crowley was living there, other strange things have occurred. A butcher cut off his hand while on the property. In the 1960s, the owner of the time, Major Edward Grant, killed himself in Crowley’s former bedroom.

A wide variety of paranormal events have occurred on the property. There have been sightings of a headless ghost. Rugs would make a pile without anyone touching them. Furniture moved on its own, and doors would slam. There would also be sounds of wild animals with no animals around. After the fires of 2015 and 2019, the paranormal activity stopped.

Today, the Boleskine House is a Scottish Registered Charity. It is known for being a beacon of culture and history, even with its dark and mysterious past. They offer tours and host various events on the property. Not only are the restoration and preservation efforts targeting the historic house and property, but they are also working on restoring the natural ecosystem around the property.
