Album Review: "Dancing On the Edge of the World" by Brooke Combe

Scottish singer Brooke Combe released her album, “Dancing On the Edge of the World,” on January 31, 2025 via Modern Sky UK. It is available on CD, vinyl, and streaming platforms. The album was mixed by Chris Taylor, produced by James Skelly, and mastered by Graeme Lynch.

This album encapsulates Combe’s soulful style with smooth vocals and great instrumentation. The mixing of the album is perfect; the vocals are clear and the instruments do not overpower the vocal tracks. Each song has a different feel, but Combe’s sound and “voice” are cohesive across the different songs.

There are 11 songs on the album. The songs are very down-to-earth and relatable. While these songs may have a specific story behind them, listeners will be able to connect them to situations in their own lives. This is powerful and is not something many songwriters can accomplish. Only one of the songs is labeled “explicit,” though there are a few “cuss” words across the album Combe wrote the songs, which shows in how passionate she is in singing her songs.

Personally, my favorite song on the album is “This Town.” It talks about living in a town you want to escape. The town is the same old, same old without anything really happening. The singer wants to escape and break free from the life she is living. People can relate to this feeling, especially if they grew up in a small town but love big cities.

Overall, this album is a great representation of Combe’s soulful style and excellent vocal capabilities. She is able to experiment with various song styles successfully without losing her own personal sound. Her songs are relatable, which will connect to people from all walks of life. The songs all have different stories and sounds with something for everyone to enjoy.
